In the azure waters off the coast of Dar es Salaam, a silent revolution is brewing. What was once considered simple ocean biomass is now being transformed into the future of luxury textiles. KelTex is proud to announce the successful scaling of our seaweed-based leather alternative, marking a pivotal moment in the transition to a circular economy.
The Science of Submerged Synthesis
Our proprietary extraction process isolates long-chain polysaccharides from indigenous brown algae. Unlike traditional animal leather, which requires massive land use and chemical tanning, or synthetic alternatives derived from petrochemicals, KelTex material is grown entirely in the ocean.
"We aren't just making a replacement; we are engineering a material that surpasses the performance characteristics of traditional leather while healing the ocean it comes from."

Scaling the Coastal Innovation Hub
With our new facility reaching full capacity, we are now able to supply high-performance textiles to global fashion houses at a scale previously thought impossible for bio-materials. This expansion has also created over 200 jobs in local seaweed farming communities, reinforcing our commitment to social as well as environmental sustainability.
